The demise of school libraries

While many people may enjoy informational and online resources to consider libraries to be nonessential, school, and public libraries continue to serve as a beginning of success for many students and especially the minority across the country. The library offers many programs and resources to the students, especially those of color.

While the students at large stand to benefit from the services of the libraries, the minority, and people of color stand to lose most with the demise of school libraries. They stand to have no access both to education and to avenues to acquire knowledge and other resources.  Without it, many would not have access to necessary and valuable resources of information, education, and the arts.

The future of the library is in the hands of the very people it serves. The minority community should be encouraged to use the tools provided by the library to communicate the need for continued government funding and support of the library.
